Well, it’s that superbly spooky, grandly ghoulish, outstandingly otherworldly (we can keep going) time of year again, and here at the Sofia Hotel we’re happily getting into the Halloween “spirit.” With one of the very best San Diego hotels are your All Hallow’s Eve headquarters, you’ve got many, many ways to embrace the eerie—and have a bone-chilling blast doing it. (We’ll try to stop with the alliteration, but no promises…)
Here are just a few of those options for Halloween fun within shouting—or perhaps we should say “shrieking”—distance from the Sofia!
Spooktacular Halloween Run/Walk (October 22)
Soak up the lovely October fresh air of San Diego, get some exercise (useful for combatting pumpkin-pie and Halloween candy overindulgences), and celebrate the haunting season all in one fell swoop at the Spooktacular 15k, 10k/5k Run/Walk at Hospitality Point Park! Open to adults and kids alike, the event features plenty of creatively garbed participants, so it makes sense a costume contest is also part of the proceedings…
Monster Bash 2017 (October 28)
This hugely popular Halloween soiree goes down from 6 PM to midnight right in our neighborhood of the Gaslamp Quarter. Thousands attend the demonic party, now in its 17th year, to rock out at five themed stages, from the Twisted Dream House to Clown Carnage. Live DJs supply scary-good beats, while the wildest, wackiest Halloween getups in San Diego compete during the Monster Bash Costume Contest on the charmingly named Death and Decay Stage—the champ (and it could be you!) pocketing a cool $5,000. Get your Monster Bash 2017 tickets right here!
The Gaslamp’s Very Own Haunted House (October 28 & 31)
In a neighborhood as history-soaked (and once risqué) as the Gaslamp Quarter, there are bound to be a few spooks and spirits hanging around. Perhaps the most celebrated haunted hotspot in the city is the William Heath Davis House (also called the Davis-Horton House). Noted as a relic of the district’s earliest days as New Town San Diego, and this October you’ll have the opportunity to get acquainted with its paranormal side courtesy of two Ghost Hunting Tours presented by the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation and the San Diego Ghost Hunters squad. The after-hours tours—during which you’ll learn some fascinating local history while seeking out unexplained noises and apparitions—kick off at 10 PM on the 28th and the 31st.
Celebrate the freaky and frightening with us at the Sofia, the first choice among San Diego hotels for Halloween and any and all other getaways, this October!
